Myron Keith Gibert, Jr.

The multipotentialite

A current research assistant and data scientist/analyst at the University of Virginia. My position involves the application of biological and computational methods to identify potential solutions to complex scientific problems in the life and social sciences.

Outside of research, I have had opportunities to cultivate transferrable skills such as leadership, human relations, critical thinking, problem solving, written and oral communication, project management and organization, self-motivation, resiliency, and research and information management.

I also identify as a Black Person of Color (BIPOC); I am fully committed to and have extensive experience with advocating for and cultivating diverse, equitable, and inclusive environments and communities.

I - Introverted.  I usually get my energy from being alone, but I'm also outgoing enough to have people confused me for an extrovert!

N - Intuitive.  I like to chart my own course, using divergent thinking to identify new possibilities and patterns.

F - Feeler.  I  prefer to use empathy and compassion when making decisions.  I value emotional intelligence over the analytical.

P - Perceiver.  I prioritize living with flexibility and adaptability.

I AM PROUD TO OFFER

My Skills

Leadership and Integrity

An Eagle Scout with a Leadership Studies Minor.  I have over a decade of experience leading and managing groups of various sizes.
I also value honesty and authenticity, and am more than willing to "speak my truth."

Emotional Intelligence

I prioritize group dynamics, empathy, and emotional intelligence. While I consider myself a "straight shooter," I also believe that there is almost always a way to convey that truth in a manner that is neither callous nor cruel.

Quantitative Intelligence

I am quite comfortable with any math that has numbers in it.  Still working on understanding how math that doesn't have numbers is actually math.

Critical Thinking

Willing to engage with material with an open-mind, including actively seeking out information outside of my comfort zone to ensure a well-rounded understanding.

Written and Oral Communication

Extensive personal and professional writing experience.  I have an established method for delivering complex ideas to the widest possible audience, with demonstrable results.

Self-Motivation and Resiliency

When the world was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, I was still able to have the most productive year of my graduate professional career.  I am often described as calm and collected in a crisis. This is the result of extensive experience with both success and failure

Curiosity

I describe myself as a multipotentialite, meaning that I have skills in many disciplines.  I would rather be bad at something than to never have tried it.  I would rather know a little about something than nothing at all.

Creativity

Would you believe me if I told you that science is art?  I am an expert in using divergent thinking.  Because of my curiosity, I have skills in many different disciplines.  I often use these seemingly disparate skillsets to make innovative connections.
WHAT PEOPLE HAVE SAID ABOUT ME

Testimonials

Myron was an incredible asset to our team

His perspective and his willingness to speak openly about his experiences were invaluable to our discussion, and helped to foster an open and honest dialogue. It was not unusual to see a group of students converge on Myron at the end of the event to ask questions that they did not feel comfortable asking in the larger group.

Myron learned new techniques
extremely fast, performed them with great skill and precision and generated valuable data in a relatively short time.  He creatively contributes to his research at a level rarely seen from a graduate student.

At a personal level, Myron has a pleasant personality, and a positive attitude. He is a great teacher to the undergraduate students that he chose to mentor. He is honest, kind and hard working.

Keith's intelligence, hard work, and creativity made him a pleasure to have in my class. It was also clear that he is a superb team player, supporting his classmates and getting along well with everyone.

He tends to be introspective and very thoughtful, and his excellent questions over the course of the semester further added to the class experience for everyone.
